Quick answerTrainerize is software for fitness coaches. A coach builds workout programs, nutrition plans and habits in a web account, and clients follow them in a free mobile app. It also offers messaging, payments and branded apps as paid extras. It is not a gym door-access or membership system, and clients do not pay Trainerize.

What is Trainerize?

Trainerize is software that independent trainers, nutrition coaches and fitness businesses use to deliver coaching through an app. The company uses the longer name ABC Trainerize in its page titles and footer, and Trainerize in most of its copy. A coach builds workouts, programs, habits and meal plans in a web account and adds clients by email. Each client follows the plan in a mobile app for iOS and Android.

The vendor's home page says more than 400,000 trainers and coaches and 1.6 million clients use it, which are the vendor's own figures. Clients do not pay Trainerize. The coach pays, and the bill depends on how many coaching clients the account holds.

The parts: programming, nutrition, messaging and business tools

  • Programming: master workouts and master programs that can go to many clients, custom programs for one client, an exercise library, on-demand workouts and an AI workout builder.
  • Nutrition and habits: meal and macro tracking, nutrition goals, habit streaks and badges, plus an optional smart meal planner add-on.
  • Engagement: in-app messaging, voice messages, auto messages, groups and challenges.
  • Business tools: a Trainerize.me profile page, appointments, product sales and payments through Stripe, referrals and prospect booking, with the selling tools in paid add-ons.
  • Branding: a custom branded app on Pro for a one-time setup fee, and a white-labeled app on Studio plans.
  • Integrations: Garmin, Withings, Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, YouTube and Zapier, with Mindbody and Glofox on Studio and Enterprise plans.

How it works from sign-up to a first workout

  • The coach signs up on the web. The vendor says the trial cannot be started from the mobile app.
  • The coach builds a master program, then adds a client by first name, last name and email. Bulk CSV upload, checkout links and Zapier can also add clients.
  • The client gets an invitation email, installs the app and can fill in a consultation form the coach switched on.
  • The client follows the calendar, logs workouts and meals, and messages the coach. The coach watches compliance and progress on a client dashboard.

Client types and seats: how the plan is counted

Trainerize lets a coach choose a client type when adding someone. The help center describes four: full access with two-way messaging, full access with one-way messaging, Basic and offline. Full access clients take a coaching seat. Basic clients can book and buy but cannot use the training tools, and the pricing FAQ says they do not count against the plan limit. Offline clients have no login and no invitation email, and still take a seat.

That is why two coaches with the same roster can need different plans. The pricing guide shows how seats and add-ons turn into a bill.

What Trainerize is not, and who it fits

  • Not a gym membership system: studios can pair it with one through the Mindbody or Glofox integrations on Studio and Enterprise plans.
  • Not a client-only fitness app: people who found it through a coach should ask that coach for an invitation. Searches for the name also return login and client app questions, which belong to the coach or the vendor's help center.
  • Fits: coaches who want programs, nutrition, messaging and payments in one app and expect 30 or more coaching clients.
  • Look elsewhere: a coach with a handful of clients can compare free plans first. Trainerize vs Everfit puts the two free entry points side by side.
