Trainerize review: what it does, how the bill is built and who it fits

Trainerize reviewed from the vendor's own pages: what its plans and add-ons cover, where the limits are and which coaches with 30 or more clients it fits.

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-30

Quick answerTrainerize is coaching software for programs, nutrition, messaging and payments, sold as a free plan, paid client seat bands and separate add-ons. It fits independent coaches and small studios with about 30 to 100 clients who want one app for the whole job. Coaches with only a handful of clients often find the free plan or a lighter tool enough.
Trainerize is likely to fit when

✓ Independent coaches and small studios with about 30 to 100 coaching clients who want programs, nutrition, messaging and payments in one app

✓ Coaches whose roster mixes training clients with clients who only book or buy

✓ Studios that need integrations with a membership system on a Studio or Enterprise plan

✓ Coaches who want a branded app and can plan for the setup route

Important limitations

— Coaches with only a few clients who can start on a free plan

— Coaches who want one flat price per client with no add-ons

— Businesses that mainly need gym membership management

— Anyone who only needs a client-side login or app download

Trainerize review: what it is and who it is for

Trainerize is software that lets a fitness coach build workout programs, track client nutrition and habits, message clients and, with add-ons, take payments. Clients use a free mobile app, and the coach works in a web account. The vendor's home page calls it the number one coaching app and says more than 400,000 trainers and coaches use it. Both statements are the vendor's own claims.

This review reads the vendor's pricing page, home page and help center as of October 30, 2026. Many searches for the name come from clients of a coach who want a login or an app download. This guide is for the coach choosing software.

Strengths: what the plans and add-ons cover

  • Programming: custom client programs, master programs that go to many clients at once, a large exercise library, custom exercise videos on Pro plans and an AI workout builder, according to the pricing page.
  • Nutrition and habits: meal and macro tracking on paid plans, habit streaks, and an optional Advanced Nutrition Coaching add-on with a smart meal planner, recipes and shopping lists.
  • Engagement: in-app messaging, voice messages, auto messages, groups, challenges and badges.
  • Business tools: the Business add-on bundles product selling, referrals, prospect booking and trial products, and the Stripe and video features can also be bought on their own.
  • Branding: Pro plans can add a basic branded app for a one-time setup fee, and Studio plans include a white-labeled app under your own name.
  • Free for clients: the pricing FAQ says clients pay nothing to use the app.

Limits: where the bill or the product can surprise you

The bill has four moving parts: a client band, a billing period, add-ons and, for a branded app, a setup fee. Each paid plan caps coaching client seats. The add-ons are sold separately and billed monthly. The Advanced Nutrition add-on is listed at a higher monthly rate from Pro 30 up than on the smaller plans, so coaches who want nutrition at scale pay the higher rate. The Business, Stripe and video add-ons overlap, so check what each one includes before buying all three.

Other limits come from the vendor's own help center. Unused time is not refunded. Downgrades start at the end of the billing cycle. Canceling moves the account to the free plan with one active client, removes add-ons and stops active recurring payment products. The Pro branded app has its own Android listing but no separate Apple App Store listing, and the vendor says the full process can take up to 8 to 12 weeks.

Plans and trial: what each Trainerize tier covers

  • Free: one coaching client, the mobile app, workout programs, basic messaging and habit coaching.
  • Grow: for the first paying clients, with two client seats and the AI workout builder, meal and macro tracking and add-ons available.
  • Pro: client seat bands of 5, 15, 30, 50, 75, 100 and 200. The pricing page groups Pro 30 to Pro 100 as small business plans.
  • Studio Plus: 500 seats and up, every add-on included, API access and onboarding support, with custom pricing listed for five or more locations.
  • Trial: 30 days with unlimited clients and no card. Add-ons are not part of the trial, and the account reverts to the free plan when it ends. The pricing guide shows how the bands and add-ons add up.

Who Trainerize fits, and who should pick something else

  • Fits: independent coaches and small studios with about 30 to 100 coaching clients who want programs, nutrition, messaging and payments in one app and are ready to read an add-on list.
  • Fits: coaches whose clients are a mix, because Basic clients who only book or buy do not count against the seat limit, according to the vendor.
  • Look elsewhere: a coach with fewer than about 15 clients can compare free entry points first. Trainerize's free plan holds one coaching client, and Everfit lists a free Starter plan for up to 5 clients. See Trainerize vs Everfit.
  • Look elsewhere: coaches who prefer one price per client. Kahunas bills per seat, and PT Distinction adds a monthly fee for each client above its included count. See the personal training software shortlist.

Next step

Read how the Trainerize bill is built by client band, then check the vendor's live pricing page from a US view with the billing toggle on monthly and then annual. If you coach under 15 clients, start with a free plan and revisit the bands when your roster grows.
